Rocky Branch, Engine Hill Bushwack, Isolation Trail
What a day! 8 hours, 5 just to summit (and I'm a fast hiker but, first time following a bushwhack and I was alone). A wild mix of ALL the weather today. Very wet trail. Bare boots for quite a long time at beginning, then microspikes, and then bare boots again because the snow was SUPER sticky. Snowshoes may have been useful for a couple small portions. But not bad enough for me to regret not bringing them. Bushwhack still 90% easily followed (???), but also didn't look like anyone had been on trail in a week or so. Everything was very wet by the end and return to my car. Plenty of postholing when I got off trail a time or two, so just off the monorail it is getting very soft and snow still deep. Finally saw one other hiker, 5 minutes after summiting. We hiked out together which was a blessing! In the end, a very accomplished feeling hike! |
