Plenty of parking at Diana's Baths parking lot |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Snow/Ice - Monorail (Stable), Snow - Spring Snow, Slush, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |

 | Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Three water crossings on the long walk in above Diana Baths are all easily rock hopable. The crossing at the beginning of the Red Rock Trail is also doable with some of the rocks slightly underwater. More rain and melting could change that equation. |

There is a fair amount of hard ice on the walk to Diana's Baths. We saw an elderly couple have to turn around because there was no way around it. By the time you reach the baths it is easily avoidable and stays that way almost all the way to the junction with the Attitash Trail where the Moat Mountain Trail turns south and starts to climb steeply. The first two thirds of the climb from this point consist of patchy ice, monorail and bare rock. Spikes are recommended but not needed the entire way if you don't mind taking them on and off. The final steep climb to the final summit is the section with the deepest snow - probably less than six inches everywhere, and you'll want spikes for that. It's hard parked with a slightly slushy surface in the warm weather today. There are a couple of sections that are very gnarly with very steep ice. We had to go around in the woods, once on quite a wide path through fairly thick brush. If you don't like going up or down steep, icy patches I recommend you save North Moat for later in the season. The final dozen or so yards to the summit, and the summit itself, is all bare rock. |
