Comments
Comments: Down low, the trail is mostly deep mud and flowing water. Patchy snow and ice are easily passable in bare boots up until about 2500' elevation, past all the stream crossings. Beyond 2500', there is lots of firm crust and ice, covered with a variable 0 to 4 inches of fresh snow from Friday's storm. Microspikes are adequate with care but crampons felt more appropriate. Crampons were particularly helpful for the final climb up on Franconia Ridge Trail.
