Comments
Comments: Met a couple gals from Maine in the lot who were doing the same route. We headed up Ammo and crossed over at the cog base, they went up Jewel. We never saw them again but followed their tracks all day. Jewel is a jewel right now - firm rail up to the Krum then equal parts snow, ice and rock. More of the same on Gulfside toward Jefferson until the Clay loop junction. More of the same up and over Clay with a little drifting here and there. Snowshoes and crampons (and axes) came along but were never needed - spikes car to car. Filtered sun and hardly any wind made for a fantastic day. Views into the Great Gulf from Clay are amazing. Nice chatting with Jim and Nate today.
