Comments
Comments: A FINE day in the forest was had with Rhockin' Rhonda. Great trail conditions to Mad River Notch, and the lower portion of Mt. Osceola Trail. I am not an alarmist, or one to discourage people from hiking, but in its current state, coming from NH112 is INCREDIBLY dangerous and should probably be avoided for a bit. This is likely to persist because we are forecasted to get 1.5" of rain here through Friday. Large portions of the trail are just blue ice chutes which required us to whack up. There are four or five pitches, namely two near the slide, the open section, the top out chute near the view on East, and one pitch just on the other side of East summit, are incredibly dangerous. I would suggest proper crampons (NOT hillsound trail crampons) and possibly an axe as you can use it on some root holds to pull yourself up. I went up the chimney bypass, rhonda went up the bypass of the bypass, of which we then bypassed a major ice flow just after the chimney. Great conditions along the ridge. We actually called a friend to see if they would give us a ride on the Waterville side, of which they thankfully did. It's *THAT* bad. Surpisingly great moving along Mt. Osceola Trail from summit proper to summer trailhead - and then to WVV. Summit to lot in less than 2 hours.
