Comments
Comments: Sawyer River Road has some ice that had a dusting of powder, and some bare road. I "bare booted" in my winter trail runners with studs and no issues at all. Put on Hillsound trail crampons about a 1/4 mile into the trail and left them on until back down to the road. The first couple of miles was a mix of some packed snow, some ice under a dusting of powder, some bare trail that was wet (not too much bare trail though).I took the left at the fork (shortcut) and the water crossing was not super deep or raging, but the rocks were submerged so thanks to a hiker for lending me one of her poles, I was able to cross easily, and used a big stick on the return. On the climb, the side sloping had a lot of sections that only had a narrow shelf, or nothing at all was completely angled. Mostly packed snow, or some ice covered with snow, and some sections that had a few inches of snow. The snow was pretty sticky so had a lot of balling up that I had to keep knocking off. Overall the conditions were pretty good for April! Happy to get this for my April grid :)
