Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water crossings today were BLASTING. Most snow bridges are unstable. I fell through one on Ammo, luckily the waterproof boots saved the day. The river crossing at the start of the Jewell Trail coming from the Cog property also requires some creative rock-finding to get across at the moment as well.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: One noteworthy blow down on Jewell.

Comments
Comments: Absolutely stunning grinder of a day. My original intention was an up-and-back to Monroe on Ammo, but getting up Ammo was such a task that I decided to trade Monroe for Washington and descend on Jewell Trail instead. You read that right, I hiked Washington just so I wouldn't have to go down Ammo. Ammo is in full-on ice mode, much of it under a thin coating of snow from earlier today. If I hadn't brought my ice axe, I wouldn't have made it to the top. Ice axe, hillsounds or (best bet) full crampons advised if you want to wrestle this steep, icy mess. Topped out at the hut to a great under-cast, clear summit views and a blue sky. 5 minutes later I was fully socked-in, where I would remain for the rest of the day. Balmy morning temps gave way for strong winds on Washington. Switched on and off between bare boots and hillsounds for the ascent.

The traverse over to the Jewell Junction was slow, and once on Jewell I found myself checking the map at least once due to the low visibility. Once in the trees I cruised back down to the Cog lot. Once again, that final water crossing is a monster at the moment. Be ready to get submerged feet.

Saw 3 other people all day, 2 young women on the summit who later descended Jewell as well, and a man in black who waved at me near the Jewell junction with Gulfside. When I glanced back at him he was gone, like REALLY GONE, and I'm pretty sure he was actually a ghost.

Awesome day.
