Tuckermen all snow after leaving Notch. Soft sidewalk. Lions Head same all the way to the crux. Exposed rock start covered in thin layer of ice. Easy if a climber with crampons. Challenging if not. Ice treads with a little snow shelfs. Above tree line snow was crusty, easy to climb with crampons. No wind drifts. Lots of rime.
Early afternoon decent gave way to softening snow. At the ice sheet steps a group of us repelled making it a much easier decent if experienced. Plenty of solid trees for the two pitches. Wicked challenging down climb without rope. Tuckermens starting to become slushy later.
Saw lots of skiers heading up and only one actually skiing. After hearing about the falls, I can understand why. Glad everyone is ok. |
