Comments
Comments: We were the only ones to do this loop in a while. Wentworth was snow and ice free until the last steep section where traction was incredibly helpful. Mead was discontinuous unstable monorail with about 20% bare patches. Pretty postholey but not super deep. Guinea Pond trail was the real problem here. The high water cutoff avoided impassable trail, but there were other huge sections of ice bridge over 3-4 deep pools of water. I busted through in one spot and got soaked. Other sections barely held us and was cracking under our feet. There is a ton of standing water on that trail with essentially no bypass, and one more warm day and the ice won’t hold anyones weight. I’d avoid this trail until melt out and then mud season passes. Sandwich notch road is still covered in packed snow and blue ice. We had bigger ambitions for today but the extremely wet conditions slowed us way down - which shouldn’t have been surprising but oh well!
