Beautiful day to hike Waumbek! More spring feel on Waumbek than on Cabot for sure. The lower elevation is slush and mud and getting close to a full monorail. The slush then takes over as you climb before the winter stronghold at higher elevations. There are some sections of ice and mostly hard packed snow. The Trail is perfect up top and microspikes were the only thing needed throughout. The trail from Starr King to Waumbek was so nice, packed down, and pleasant to hike that it took no time at all to hike the mile section. If you plan on continuing along the Kilkenny Ridge trail, I would plan on having snowshoes. |
