 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked at the drivable end of Rowe Mountain Rd. There’s still a small snow bank covered in sand there so cars can’t get through but except in April and May when motorized vehicles are prohibited to use the road due to mud, someone could theoretically use the road so probably not a good idea to block it then. The roads in weren’t too muddy or soft. Easy with just FWD. |

Day 143, Peak 128. 2nd hike and 4th peak of the day after the 3 Ayers Pond peaks. The sun was starting to hide itself at this point in the day making it feel much cooler.
I walked a few dozen feet down the road to avoid an old barbed wire fence before turning right into the woods and ascending S/SW to the peak. Grades were easy-moderate for a ways and I came to and briefly followed a road before continuing uphill much more steeply. No cliff bands. The highpoint is on the south side of the highest contour. No jar but rather a register brought to you by Honda ;) I signed in, took a bearing back to my car, and stuck generally a short ways east of my track on the ascent until down low at which point I crossed it and followed the road I’d met on my way up back out. Unfortunately, this road seems to end in the backyard of the last house on the south side of the road so I quietly made my way right (east) skirting the fence again back to my car. No posted land. Also, when coming off the summit on my way down, I got myself into a tiny little ravine which still had some snow. Only real snow I saw all hike other than the very occasional small patch. I mostly stayed on top of it.
1.5mi with 800ft of gain. Took me 1hr20min. 222 more days and 237 more peaks to go… |
