Comments
Comments: Temps in the upper thirties by mid-afternoon loosened up the hard snow and ice that we encountered in the morning. The path up Crawford was a mix of hard snow, glare ice patches, bare ground, monorail and wide open rock faces. From about .9 to 1.25 was easy to bare boot but spikes are best for the rest of it. A hundred yards or so before the Crawford Spur it's easy to take an accidental left and go out on an open ledge (where there are great views) but you'll have to backtrack to get back on the main trail unless you bushwhack a bit. Trail between Crawford Spur and Mount Parker Trail was tracked out and easy to traverse with about 6-12 inches of hard-packed snow the entire way. Parts were very narrow and sloped which made the footing a bit tricky at times. At the junction with Mount Parker Trail we could see that the trail continuing on to Stairs was similarly tracked out, but didn't follow it. Mount Parker Trail up to the top of Mount Resolution was in good shape except for the open, sloped ledge section not far up the trail. Much of it was covered with hard ice that was very treacherous due to the slope. Fall and you'd slide for a ways, although likely not over the edge! Beware if you are crossing this section and it is covered in a very light coat of fresh snow. Glare ice could be hidden under the snow. Easiest way across (if you're not wearing full crampons) is to hug the top along the edge of the undergrowth.
