Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I got there somewhat late (9ish) but there were plenty of spots available. On my return there were still some spots as the usual high turnover tourist stops didn't seem active. I was amazed at the road repairs on the Kanc; if one didn't know about Irene they would just appear as typical summer projects. Only on Rt. 16 was there work going on and lane changes, but it wasn't a problem. Now that I've seen most of the roads and quite a few trails, I've got to give kudos to the NHDOT and to the trail maintainers. Great job all.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails mostly dry, wide and in good shape. Met trail maintainer Voyageur (Scott)who was up to work on the trails. Irene hadn't caused any significant damage perhaps because the waterbars were all working. Scott said he saw some gravel in unusual places but nothing serious. There were a couple stoop under blowdowns that Scott may have gotten my now. I worked to clean up a step over/around just before meeting him and I'll guess with his bow saw he took the whole thing out. The bog/mud bridges/logs in the Isolation Trail sections are deteriorating and in places are more like teeter totters, okay if you are in a 3 Stooges short, but Scott said he's been reporting that for some time. He also said he wants to get some more brushing done in a few small stretches.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There are lots of boulders/ledge on steep slopes so foot pads need to be toughened. There was water down low which was good for dippin; none after nearing treeline and up until meeting Davis path where a boulder held a nice little pool of rainwater. I'd carry water for pooch for this stretch. There's water down by Isolation trails. The cool temps and mostly cloudy skies meant Pepper had it pretty comfy most of the time despite lots of exposure. We were lucky to meet happy Cinnilla again just 2 days after hiking with her in the snow.

Comments
Comments: After two hikes with great groups of people and dogs, Pepper kept looking around for others as we started the hike. We pretty much had the trails to ourselves but were lucky to meet Per & Cinnilla & Helen (finishing her 4Ks)who came up Rocky Branch (very wet as Ed 'n Lauky reported), Scott the trail maintainer and lastly Dana of White Mountain Photography taking pictures near Slide Peak. This route out and back via Glen Boulder to Isolation is one of the great hikes in the Whites, with superb views going up, on Isolation and then going down, and while the weather wasn't as sunny as forecast, it was a fine day to do it with a good buddy.
