Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Spotted a car in a wide shoulder area about a quarter mile east of the Greeley Ponds Trail on the Kanc, the lot has not been plowed, probably all winter. Parked a car at the Livermore/Depot Camp parking lot, nicely plowed, our starting point. Plenty of room there this day.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Wet/Sticky, Snow - Spring Snow, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: None were difficult, although wearing snowshoes makes the crossings a bit awkward. The South Fork of the Hancock Branch, about .3 miles from the Kanc was still snowbridged as of this date, but I don't think that will last much longer.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blowdowns, mostly stepovers. One was better as a walkaround. One of us crawled under that one.

Comments
Comments: Traverse of the Greeley Ponds Trail plus the 2 spurs noted above, in the interests of redlining Waterville valley. The Livermore Trail end was mostly boilerplate ice, we used microspikes. Then later on the snow got deeper and softer, with the sunny warm weather, and we switched to snowshoes and used them the rest of the day. The Timber Camp Trail was the least broken out, in fact an earlier snowshoer had stopped and turned around at a small clearing a few tenths before the camp clearing so from there on the trail was not broken out. On the Greeley Ponds Trail, the closer we got to the Kanc the more we could see a monorail developing in its early stages, before it becomes a true monorail, so we were fine on our snowshoes as long as we stayed in the middle of the trail. It looked like some earlier barebooters had trouble with postholing whenever they strayed from the middle of the trail in the last mile and a half before we reached the Kanc. Other than a handful of cross-country skiers at the Livermore Trail parking lot and at the Depot Camp clearing we didn't see a soul all day. Thanks to LW and Camo for a great hike.
