We started the hike in spikes. The wet sticky snow was balling up under the spikes. As we headed up the Osseo trail, the clumping wasn’t as bad. The snow was melting off the trees so we were quickly soaked. When we were close to the ladder section, we put on snowshoes for better traction and the snow was deeper. Clumping under snowshoes was not too bad at this higher elevation. The ladders were all covered except for 2 steps, which reminded us that this was the steep ladder section. Very difficult because the snow was so soft, we were sliding. The slushy snow was very slippery. Once closer to the ridge, our 7 sets of snowshoes packed this deep section nicely. Getting to the final summit cone after the first lookout was slippery and we stayed to the right in the trees a bit. Incredible blue skies and spectacular views so all the hard work was worth it. |
