Comments
Comments: Trail was pretty soft at the beginning of the day. I started out with Trail Crampons but they balled up, so I quickly switched to snowshoes and kept them on for the climb up North Hancock and around the loop to South Hancock. The snowshoes started to ball up pretty bad about halfway up the north peak. The loop trail is pretty heavily drifted in places as well as postholed. Ugly ugly. I smoothed it out. Descended the south peak in Trail Crampon Pros. It's been glissaded but I got pretty good traction, as the top snow layer covers soft ice/slush. By the time I got to the bottom of South, the trails were barebootable without postholing. As you get nearer to the Kanc, the trails are going to slush. Saw one person - a gridder named Kathy, who'd just climbed Osceola and was doing the Hancocks for desert.
