Only one other car at the Lincoln Woods trailhead Monday morning. I wasn’t sure what to expect following the weekend storm, but anticipated breaking some trail. I used spikes for the well-packed LWT but switched to snowshoes as soon as I reached the Bondcliff trail junction. I was surprised and delighted to see one or two sets of fresh-looking snowshoe tracks. The trail was easy to follow all the way to the summit; thanks to whomever came through earlier I didn’t have to break trail, just consolidate (the weekend storm did drop several inches of powder). I scrambled Hillary Step without difficulty, then removed my snowshoes for the summit rocks and ice. The return trip was equally straightforward, except the snow became very wet and sticky after about 2 miles and I had to keep kicking my snowshoes clear every few steps. The other hikers must have continued to the other Bonds, I didn’t see a single person on the trails all day. All in all a great day (even with falling in the brook) and 48/48W for me. |
