Lots of snow had fallen two days ago, Saturday. The Sunday hikers had packed it down pretty well, though still a little soft at times. I wore snowshoes all the way, both for ease of walking and to help the trail. Most hikers were wearing snowshoes, so a nice packed path should be setting up. The last short stretch above treeline has lots of ice and some rocks, but it's not steep. I was fine in snowshoes, microspikes would work also. Summit was socked in, no view, but a great alpine setting. The woods were beautiful with all the new snow still hanging on the trees. Felt like winter again! |
