Comments
Comments: Awesome hike to the Hancocks after a fresh snow the night before. First few miles is flat / gentle ups and downs—really lovely. Once you hit the loop junction, it starts getting steeper as you head up North Hancock, and then there's an intense steep stretch for about half a mile. I was really glad I had my alpine snowshoes. Folks in recreational snowshoes or microspikes only were struggling due to the incline combined with the ice under the snow.

At the top of the steep stretch, be sure to check out the view from the outlook -- a few yards to the left from the sign showing the way to South Hancock. More great views through the trees as I went along the ridge. The descent from S. Hancock is steep, and I ended up having to butt sled parts of it—in part because other people had, making the trail very icy and slick. (I know butt sledding is fun, but it really does mess up the trail for other people!)

All in all, a great hike. 6 hours total.
