Water Crossing Notes: The water crossings were all quite doable
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Very few problems with downed trees. The worst was on Isolation about half way up from the last stream crossing. It looks like a giant game of pick up sticks. It is nothing new and you can get through without having to crawl.

Dog-Related Notes: There is plenty of water on the trail for drinking to say the least.

Comments
Comments: We did the Engine Hill whack following the winter route as I had saved it on my GPS. Following carefully that route we had no problem with thick tree growth. The grass and ferns are three plus feet high and there was some ground water to get through but all in all it was not that bad. It dropped me off on the trail just below the third crossing. A whack up the stream can be done there but right now the crossing are fairly easy.

On the way back we used the trails as it had rained--snowed quite a bit during the day and the grass would have been way to wet. Otherwise I'd pick that route over the trails. The tract I followed took us up to 3200' and gradually up to 3300'. Because you're walking on a side slope the tendency is to want to drop down, and if you do that you will get yourself into some messy areas.

The trails except the beginning climb up Rocky Branch are pretty wet. Isolation is badly eroded in places but always passable. The stream crossings are all doable without getting socks wet. There is a major washout on the west bank of the second crossing. There are cairns on each side to indicate the trail. It is not difficult to pick a spot to cross there.
