There is one spruce that has fallen perpendicular to the trail, approxminately .25 miles up from Bald junction. There are several pieces of flagging for future projects left by the trail maintainer. This trail is one of the finest in the Whites and is well loved by its owner. |

Two parasitic postholers. Ya we just got a foot, I dont need snowshoes though, Is it wrong to smile at water crossings where they obviously went in and got their feet wet? If not, I don't want to know whats right. |

A FINE day in the forest. This was a hard fought Kinsmans for sure. Sidehill and Poptart gridded another out, this was my penultimate visit for the pair. Between the three of us, we have 63 peaks left for our grids. Get it!! We broke trail from the car to South Kinsman. From Mt. Kinsman Trailhead in Easton to Bald Junction, there is little cover and spikes would be sufficient. However after that, snow depths where from 6-10" of light and fluffy stuff. Nothing too bad, until the last push to KRT. We encountered waist high (ok I am 5'3" so not saying much) drifts. This continued all the way to South Kinsman. We encountered some amazing sastrugi (there is your scrabble word for the evening) of which we routinely took pictures of before we destroyed it. Less than a mile and hour going through just tons of snow. We where absolutely elated to be greated by two bare booters who had come up fishin jimmy on our way out. I might have mouthed off to both of them. We ran into a SAR volunteer and a local on our way out who I knew, who said whoever broke the trail went way off. I laughed and said no - that was me - i took the old route that cuts the switchback. Mount Kinsman Trail has seen 4 sets of snowshoes and is still roughly broke. F*^%*(^in Jimmy is likely post holed to heck from the barebooters. A huge thank you to Moutine Runer and Princess Feet for an early birthday dinner! 30 more... the end is near! |
