Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at the jct of Rt 26 and Balsams Brook Dr in Colebrook. There was a large plowed spot here where you could park. In winter with a lot of snow there may not be room but there was more than enough room now with all of the melting.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The brook separating Rt 26 from the woods was partially bridged but I wasn’t sure if it’d support me so I walked over the bridge on Balsams Brook Drive in Colebrook to get across instead.

Comments
Comments: Day 131, Peak 116. 3rd hike of the day after Mudget Mtn and Lovering Mtn. Warm but windy and didn’t quite have the sun like I did the day before.

After crossing on the bridge, I entered the thick woods heading south and soon finding the drainage that I thought I might follow up to the minor col between the main peak and its north subpeak. I soon found a road though that headed closer to the ridge that would take me to this northern subpeak and I decided to approach the peak that way instead, heading more SW. This worked well. After an initial steep climb to gain the ridge, the grades were nice and I had open woods. I skirted the eastern side of the subpeak by following an obvious road just barely going within the highest contour shown on Gaia. There was an a snowmobile trail in the minor col between the main peak and this northern knob that I crossed. I then ascended due south along the northern ridge of the main peak. Great open hardwoods here and very gentle grades. I was even able to follow a road along it and there seemed to be another road that paralleled it as well! At about 2350ft, at the base of the cone, the grade became much steeper and the roads ended. I hoofed it up the final 300 vertical feet to the summit area.

The summit area was lovely. Totally open woods and some small birch glades! Views through the trees to the surrounding peaks :) I signed in and returned in my tracks. This peak was easier and faster than I would’ve thought from this approach. I really enjoyed the summit too :) The hike was about 3mi with nearly 1200ft of gain, taking me just under 2hrs to complete. 234 more days and 249 more peaks to go…
