Comments
Comments: Party of 3 and an unseasonably warm day on Washington. Went up Ammo to LOTC hut, over to Washington and down Jewell. Holy moly the ice. The steeps on Ammo are an ice luge and have thick yellow ice in spots only suitable for full crampons. Ice ax would be helpful too. I can't imagine going down Ammo today. Above treeline there is a mix of thick ice, bare rock, and some crusty snow -- crampons still preferred. Descending Gulfside, there are thick yellow ice flows near the ravine wall where the cog breaks away from the trail and it took some care to stay away from a couple no-fall zones. Again full crampons and ice ax preferred in this spot if descending. Jewell was a nice highway and walk in the woods great for micros. All this will change tomorrow obviously.
