 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Mountain Road is passable. Perch Pond Road leading to it, on the other hand, is muddier than I've ever seen it. I don't think one would want to attempt this with a low clearance car today. |

Trails still remain fully covered, though the summit viewpoint is currently melted out.
Old Mountain Road was a combination of soft blue ice, spring snow, and slush. I wore snowshoes for flotation (snow was soft and the ice had water running under it; didn't want to posthole through it) and traction (Microspikers were holding onto trees to get down some of the ice flows).
I took the northbound herd path, then swung back around on the Crawford Ridgepole Trail (adds 0.1 mile and a slight bit of gain). Other than the area that usually is scoured (still a narrow passage of ice), everything was spring snow. Some tree wells melted out in the woods.
Cloudy but mild afternoon with temperatures in the mid to upper 40s. Lakes still look fully frozen. |
