Comments
Comments: Surprisingly nice day with little wind and some sun! Champney Falls Trail is a very well packed superhighway all the way up to Chocorua, I am guessing. Champney Falls is looking very nice, but there is a portion of trail that follows some stairs that are completely iced over, like 1ft+ of solid ice at an aggressive angle. Looks like most others turned around but I was able to make it up in spikes, but that was probably not a good idea and I would not do it again (in spikes and without an ice axe). I saw one person standing on Chocorua summit.

I used spikes until I got to Bee Line and switched to snowshoes to break out the trail. I passed a group of 8ish people on their way up postholing somewhat intermittently, so it should be fine without snowshoes now. I was able to follow some old tracks up to Old Paugus trail which has not seen any traffic lately. Switched back to spikes once on Bolles because snowmobiles had packed down the trail and only postholed a few times. Lots of melting and some parts of the trail have no snow! I saw another trail runner as I was leaving.
