Gate closed at 4:00. We left around 4:45. A quick study of the gate reveals how one can get out when it's closed and the lock is locked. |

One short section of Bunnell Notch Trail, part way up from the logging road area, was taken out by the brook. Still water flowing down that section, but one can get around it. Some large blowdowns just past the old fire tower site. |

First winter hike of the summer. Trails were generally dry and in good shape. Sleet/snow started a few minutes above Bunnell Notch. Crunchy rime ice on the trail near the cabin (probably melted this afternoon when the sun broke out). Quite chilly up high in the fog with the wind and rime ice. Birches starting to get yellow, hobblebush red, and some other hardwood orange, but still early colors. Bushwhacked out the scree fields on the way down for some nice views. |
