What was I thinking? Climbed North and South Kinsman today via the Fishing Jimmy Trail. Guess I forgot what a beast that trail is! Super icy and steep as hell. Broke two Hillsound Trail Crampons today, which must be a record. I had the foresight to bring full crampons and an ice axe which made the descent back down Fishing Jimmy pretty easy though. I even got to chop some steps today with the axe. When was the last time you had to do that?
Seriously, if you plan to climb Fishing Jimmy, bring at least Hillsound Trail Crampons. The surface is very icy although there are numerous social bypasses around the worst parts. Full crampons would also be a good idea. The ridge trail out to South Kinsman has some ice, but is mostly frozen snow.
WoodsieJess - nice to meet you on South Kinsman. |
