The Cog route ran the gamut today. The section below Waumbek Station had stretches of open dirt and packed snow and was softening in the afternoon. From Waumbek to Jacob's Ladder had packed snow with sections of hard ice, also softening later on. Above Jacob's Ladder there were some unavoidable stretches of hard ice, some with exposure into Burt Ravine. Above timberline had a wonderful mix of packed snow and manageable ice. We wore rock spikes down low and changed to Hillsound Trail Pros at Waumbek Station.
Wonderful hike with Chris in sometimes challenging conditions. Wind was gusting to 60mph at the summit. It was such a pleasure to encounter Guy J. up top and catch up on things. |
