What a beautiful day for pres peaks! Spikes car to car quite comfortably and the crampons got a free ride. I still need the other S presi peaks for March so I didn't bother with summiting Monroe to save my legs for tomorrow. Start of a push to finish my ssw48 with 5 left after today. Ammo has a decent amount of blue and yellow ice patches and currently is strongly not recommend to descend without crampons, mostly good hard crusty snow below the gem pool. Pretty good snowpack above 2500' to treeline, total mixed bag above treeline with crusty snowdrifts, significant bare rock and rock hopping on rocks with no to minimal snow coverage, and patches and large flows of blue and grey ice. Jewel was a highway from treeline down to the car and similar mixed bag to Crawford/Gulfside above treeline |
