Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The lot is plowed. There was one other car when I got there at 0730, 21 degrees and five other cars when I returned at 1300, 31 degrees.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Black, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction, Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossings are bridged but the ice is deteriorating. I poked through ankle deep with one foot going out and the ice collapsed beneath my feet on my return even after I poked it with a stick. I went in both feet, knee deep and was thankful I hadn't had snowshoes on and that the ice I crawled out on held. I guess I had a little too much ice cream last night. Exposed rocks were iced over.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Two downed trees that were easily walked around.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: One dog was going up as I was coming down. Not sure that he'll handle the icy steeps.

Comments
Comments: A nice day with low winds and good visibility despite the overcast. I barebooted the road to the trailhead then spikes from there. I took snowshoes for possible drifting from the winds but there wasn't any. The road is ice covered with snow as are some spots on the trail. Most of the trail is packed snowed and there are beginnings of a monorail in some spots. There are some icy sections of the trail that are breaking through as well as bony and exposed areas. The 0.2 to the summit was ice covered with snow that the butt sliders seemed to take to. The spikes worked fine up and down the steep icy slope to the summit, but after the traffic that followed me and the butt sliding to come, it might be wise to have crampons on hand. It was good to see the Almond Joy guy again. Thanks for the tasty snack.
