Date of Hike: Thursday, December 24, 2009
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked at Four Corners which has room for a few cars. The USFS sign at the entrance road tells people to park up the road 1.2 miles or so.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All streams have ice routes to easily cross, road and trail.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: So much new blowdown. Some of the spruce-fir stands are breaking up. Along with two others most of it has been removed except nuisance stuff in the lower section that I didn't have time for, and the really big trees that may need a chain saw. Most of these require a walk around; a few worked by having their branches removed. But if you bring a small saw you can clean the remaining nuisance stuff in the lower section; I just ran out of time.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The might tough little dog got snowballed a bit by the new snow but that should be done. Despite musher's wax his paws iced up, perhaps because there are still a couple of wet spots on the trail higher up that he got into before I could stop him. I may need to try something more.

Comments
Comments: Lowest part of trail has little snow and can be barebooted. Upper part really needs snowshoes and while it is packed down it is not well packed due to the snow’s consistency and windrifting. Snow if off hanging branches except perhaps for tall hikers.

We hiked mostly in the clouds but on top we had awesome views of the peaks under a deep blue sky, with an undercast to the north. We were delighted to meet Larisa and a companion just as we were leaving the peak. They were going over to Lincoln and then down Bridal Path – awesome hikers. The little dog shot down the better packed trail on the way down and snowshoeing down was fun. It should be good hiking tomorrow but for us it was a nice way to spend Christmas Eve.
