Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Small crossings were easy step overs or bridged. Large water crossing of the Rattle river was best made on the bridge 20-30 yards upstream. Trail crossing looked rock-hopable on snow covered rocks, bridge easier.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Ditto previous report: Kenduskeag needs a trim.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Cooper and Pier had a blast!!! Somehow they have no trouble breaking trail and are ready to go again when we get back to the car. Some pups may need additional assistance through the tricky segment of the Kenduskeag Trail, but it is passable for now. Limited open water @ crossings was available for thirsty pups.

Comments
Comments: Much thanks to Snowflea & Fancypants for the previous report & trail breaking, it was spot on and oh so helpful!!!!

Snowshoes the whole way. We were hoping for a more broken trail considering the recent travel (noted above); however, that was not to be. Trail to shelter was packed, after shelter 4-6" of powder gradually increased to much more significant drifting.

Side stepping hillside crossing noted above was a workout for the hips and balance (only 4-6" of powder coverage here).

The more significant drifting snow started on the steeper ascent where the Rattle River trail was lost all together under foot high (and more) drifts in a couple of locations (I/tall person was sinking to above the knee more than a few times). Gaining traction was a challenge on some of these steeper high drifted stretches; herringboning in snowshoes helped.

Drifting continued on Kenduskeag Trail, but maybe only to a foot or down to bare rock (and bog bridge). Two segments with ice flows, but both had plenty of vegetation to grab hold of if sliding. The worst was also reported above, was quite narrow, but there are plenty of trees to slow and prevent sliding too far.

All our hard effort was rewarded with excellent views in many directions starting on the ledges heading to the true summit. Great day to be out before the impending weather changes... This report may not apply after the next storm, but hopefully all the trail breaking by us and the team before us will not be for naught.
