Started from Ammnoosuc Ravine Trailhead. 3-4 inches of fresh powder. 6-12in of fresh powder higher up. Thanks to the couple of people ahead of me for rebreaking most of the trail to the hut. Wore snowshoes from car to the hut. Switched to crampons for the rest of time above treeline level. Went out and back to Monroe. Then went out and back from Washington. I think there was more ice on Monroe than going to Washington. Little tricky finding the beginning of crawford path from the hut, but visibility was poor above treeline. Once I found the continuous line of cairns, trail was easy to follow. Going to Washington there was a mix of ice, snow drifts, and Rocky areas. Crampons seemed the right choice for the conditions though. Switched back to snowshoes once I returned to the hut after Washington. It was tricky finding the initial path down from the hut. I had to do a little bushwhacking, but finally got back on the Ammnoosuc. Smooth sailing after that. No views up top, but still a great day. |
