Date of Hike: Sunday, February 27, 2022
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I accessed the peak from the north, driving as far down as I could on South Rd before it stops getting plowed and turns to a snowmobile trail. This point is a couple hundred feet south of the pond shown on Gaia, at most. There are what appears to be new signs here indicating that this is a plow truck turnaround and you should not park here though…not sure what access from the south looks like. I was the only car parked here so the other people I saw must either be local or came up from the south.

Comments
Comments: Day 119, Peak 99. 3rd hike and 4th peak of the day after Ames Hill and Bean Mtn and Kennedy Hill. Skies were cloudier and it was very windy though temps were quite moderate.

I walked south along South Rd which is a snowmobile trail at this point for about a half mile to the summer parking lot where the trail starts. There are signs up regarding the active timber harvest asking you to stay at least 100ft away from the equipment and explaining that the trail is open unless specifically marked at times as otherwise. I hiked up the trail, first at easy grades, then more moderately to the peak which had nice views though they’re becoming somewhat obstructed by the trees. Nice cairn at the highpoint. No register was seen. The trail had seen a good amount of traffic. Some had even used snowshoes including the two others I saw out there though there didn’t seem to be nearly enough depth to me to make snowshoes practical especially since the trail was already well broken; you’d just bang them up. Though I didn’t realize it on my ascent, there was solid black ice beneath the snow most of the way. I slipped a few times. Microspikes recommended though they honestly might not bite it that well…and not sure how many will find crampons worth it on this small hike ????

About 2.5mi with 425ft of elevation taking me 1hr20min to complete. 246 more days and 266 more peaks to go…
