Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at the Great Gulf Wilderness lot (I have a season pass but remember if you don’t have one, this lot collects the $5 fee even in winter). It was nicely plowed and mine was the only car when I started and the only car when I returned.

Comments
Comments: Snowshoes all day; the snow is mushy and wants to be a concrete superhighway but the universe is not cooperating with our collective wish for that. I don’t know if we are allowed to use the Joe Dodge Cutoff and I was fully prepared to start from the South Imp trailhead, but I didn’t see a single sign to dissuade me, and there is a drifted over but clear snowshoe path. It was easy to follow this route to the South Imp Trail, which had seem slightly more traffic. Up to the North Imp intersection, it’s clear that most of the humans were wearing snowshoes (did you know that snowshoe rabbits can posthole? I had no idea. Poor bunny!). At the North Imp intersection you could see even more human traffic headed thataway, but that traffic also includes one or more barebooters and the associated (human) postholes. Those postholes continued up the North Carter Trail but were lost to view about 0.25miles from the Carter Moriah summit, where the drifts got bigger. Below there it was 2-4” fluffy new snow; above this point it was 6-12” of fluffy drifts, which were no problem except for the occasional times when my snowshoe went partially into a posthole. It was easier, on the way back, when I could see where to step safely.
Out and back to Middle Carter, only, due to my time constraints (best senior dog ever, but with a time limited bladder!), and because I already “have” South.
Other info: no visible recent traffic on Carter Moriah headed toward the Imp Shelter or toward South Carter from Middle.
