Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: For the main branch of Rattle River, we went upstream a short distance and found a solid ice bridge. Other smaller water crossings were solidly ice bridged or easily stepped over.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Kenduskeag needs a haircut. There is a complicated hanger near the top of Rattle River Trail. A few minor blowdowns on Kenduskeag.

Comments
Comments: We had the entire route to ourselves. Snowshoes car to car. There was older snowshoe track covered by 2-4” of new snow with deeper drifts up high. A half mile +/- sidehill from hell was more challenging than the steep 1000 foot climb following it. Televators were most welcome on the steeps.

Kenduskeag Trail needs a good brushing. At times it felt more like a bushwhack, with snow-laden boughs overlapping from opposite sides of the trail.

There is one tricky icy section on Kenduskeag requiring minor gymnastics. Thankfully there are trees to hang onto here.

The ridge heading over to SM is spectacular and reminiscent of the Mahoosucs across the road. Was fun watching the weather move in and getting pelted with snowflakes in the increasingly gusty winds. One of our more “wintry” hikes this winter!
