Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs loved it except the very upper portion of KRT 1/2 mile from summit. Sketchy sections of thick ice with covered snow made it tricky even with claws and a later part with very tiny monorail of snow no handholds and drop edge caused Cedric (Aussie) and Lincoln (golden mountain dog) to refuse to cross, which is extremely rare for these hardy hiker boys.
Bugs
Bugs: No
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found a grey soft glove in parking lot (left near lost sign) and an iPhone charger

Comments
Comments: Attempted Cannon Summit via Lonesome Lake Trail on the backside of Kinsman Ridge Trail. Lonesome Lake Trail was in great condition with a firm pack and easy wearing micros or snow shoes. Kinsman Ridge Trail leaving Lonesome was more postholed and we tried to flatten what we could with our snowshoes. Made it to within 1/2 mile of summit when we met 2 guys who had just turned around due to large ice slabs covered by snow and a sketch section with a tight snow monorail, no real handhold and a fair drop into trees below. We got halfway through this section when our dogs refused to continue. Carrying anyone down this portion would have been nearly impossible without rope so we decided to turn. Backtracking down the large ice slabs was best done backward. If you were solo, had crampons/ ice axe in case and feeling brave it could have been done but we had too many dependents to risk it in the cold and windy conditions today. Butt sledding was fantastic on the trip down.
