I am really getting sick of hiking out to Galehead this winter, but I had good company today so the miles went faster. We barebooted to the second crossing in about 1-2 inches of fresh powder and then switched to snowshoes. The trails are all broken out, but the depth of new powder increases as you climb higher. The wind was howling at the Galehead Hut and there were drifts on the Frost Trail up to the Galehead summit. Saw one other person all day, a barebooter who was complaining about breaking trail from Garfield - doing the loop. Her postholes should be healed by the incoming snow and the wind. |
