 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
As others have noted, this is signed as a private drive/neighborhood and open to residents only but the road the actual snowmobile trail is on is not. There’s a house at the end of Summit Drive near where I parked. They pulled out of their driveway, saw me, and continued on their merry way. Hampshire Woods Loop has some hills on it. Most of it was well plowed except for the southern section of the western half of the loop. My FWD car with 2 snow tires made it but it was a bit of a stretch. The went back the east half of the loop and while it was better plowed it also had a prolonged steep hill. I parked in the large plow turnaround at the end of Summit Drive shortly after the last house on the left. |

Day 118, Peak 96. Second hike of the day after Errol Hill. Beautiful day if a bit cold and windy for my liking. I walked southwest along the snowmobile trail for about 1/4mi to the southern end of the triangle and then turned left into the woods and headed S/SW toward the peak. I skirted around the 2050ft bump and went down into the minor col between the two peaks. There were a few ups and downs in here which was a pain. Good snow conditions though; a few inches of new powder over a semi-supportive base that you’d sink just a bit into. From this minor col, I attained the NW ridge of the peak and followed it to the summit in mostly open woods at a moderate grade. Not hard to find the register.
Upon signing in, I returned in my tracks to the col, then turned right and headed north down the drainage toward the snowmobile trail which I then followed back uphill toward my car. A little nicer than all the ups and downs earlier. 2.75mi with about 400ft of gain taking 1hr45min. 247 more days and 269 more peaks to go… |
