Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked across from an old wooden shack near the HOL just above 1600ft. If heading south, this was right before the road changes from due south to southwest. No plowed out spots unfortunately but the road was plowed wide enough that I could get behind the white lines with about 3ft to spare. Felt a little risky as the occasional plow truck was still out from the snow the day before but one passed me and didn’t say anything so I guess we were good!

Comments
Comments: Day 118, Peak 95. First hike of the day. A quintessential winters day in the north country; partly sunny blue sky, moderate temps and wind.

From my car, I dove into the woods. I was immediately happy to have descent snow conditions for once this winter ???? A few inches of powder over a semi-supportive crust. When I say semi-supportive I mean that it might break underneath you but only an inch or two… it wasn’t some nasty guessing game or anything. Very good winter bushwhacking conditions. After bushwhacking for a short ways, I came to an overgrown road and then soon found myself on an actual road which I turned right on and followed for a ways. Note that there was a private property sign here but in the direction of the road should I have taken a left here instead. No other signs were seen. The roads were generally heading too far south of the peak closer to the col between Errol Hill and Mill Mtn so I’d hop off one but soon find another. Easy going. I think I did this to just below 2000ft where, once passing some thicker looking woods and a steep grade, took a left and went more steeply up a grade and walked to the south around the two bumps 1/2mi from the true summit. From there, I continued east up the peak to attain the ridge, then walked north along it to the summit passing by the markers for the National Wildlife Refuge. Open woods almost the whole way. Pretty easy hike. 2.75mi, just under 700ft of gain, and it took me 2hrs (1hr5min up, 10min at the top, and 45min down).

247 more days and 270 more peaks to go…
