Soooooooooo…
The lot is not plowed, and has probably 8-10” of fresh snow. If you have AWD/4WD and decent ground clearance, you should be fine. |

First in the lot between 7:30/7:45.
From trailhead to the first water crossing is pretty bony. That part of the trail only got maybe 4-6” of snow, and it was pretty much bare ground before the storm. After the first crossing, the snow got deeper and covered most of the rocks and roots. Super powdery, super soft snow.
KRT was a snowshoe wonderland. At least a foot of powder, albeit over a base of ice. “Breaking” the trail was easy, and very gentle on the knees/ankles/feet.
We (group of 5) went snowshoes car-to-car. We passed about 12 people total, every single one in snowshoes. I have no idea what we did to get that lucky, but I’ll take it. At least a few of those 12 came up FJ, as the trail was tracked out when we got back to the junction.
There is a lovely snowshoe track/trench from today. It’s far from solid, though. The snow is very dry and not compacting. If you’re heading out on Sunday, it will be a glorious snowshoe hike. |
