We parked at the Irving, because breakfast pizza and a cinnamon bun sounded like a good idea. The winter lot was plowed out. Empty when we walked by, nearly full on our way out. |

The one small stream is an easy stepover |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Trail has a few blowdowns. One large tree down on the lower section that can be walked around off-trail. A little below the summit of Starr King is another blowdown that is a tough duck under. And then on the traverse there is another that can be walked around. |

We decided to leave Jackson at home, since the forecast was pretty cold and we weren't sure how much snow there was, he's little and we didn't want him breaking trail the whole day in a foot of snow. Saw a few pups who were having a great time though. |

I've been promising KatieB I'd take her on this hike for a while when it was the right day, since she loves snow covered trees. Today was definitely the right day. We broke trail, if you could call it that, through 4-5 inches of fluffy powder. Also brought our friends up for their first 4K. I wore my snowshoes start to finish. The rest of my crew wore snowshoes to Waumbek and switched into spikes coming back across Starr King. Plenty of people out today including an AMC group. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. |
