| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Crawford Connector, off Mt. Clinton Road, was not plowed but my low clearance AWD tank had no issues. They have plowed in Mt. Clinton Road at the gate, which is still open. So a running start with wreckless abandon might get you to Edmands' summer lot. |

A FINE day in in and above the forest was had. Today was simply for the sheer joy of climbing. I am gridlocked until March, however Rhockin' Rhonda needed for Feb, and I did need today for Calendar Day grid.... lol! We lucked out and hit just prior the bubble of hikers so it did not feel at all like a salmon trying to swim upstream as Pierce often is. We wore shoes car to car as they where absolutely the most efficient mode of travel. A varying depth of 3-6" of fresh fluffy pyow pyow over blue ice was prevalent on Crawford. We opted to skip Pierce until on the way out, this chose to be the right decision. There was two sets of snowshoe tracks so we opted to atleast have good conditions on the way in. There is sections of nice blue, unconsolidated powder, post holes, and firm trough. It's likely easier for you to swap your snowshoes for spikes at the Mt. Ike Loop junction, as its more a mix of rock and blue, and spikes make you a nimble ballerina as opposed to me with my snowshoes who dances like a dad all goofy and clumsy, lacking any style or flare. I will never understand, especially judging by the out of state plates in the lot, how you would just wake up and go "yup, I shoveled a foot of snow in my driveway but why would I wear snowshoes in the White Mountains?" - several had them on their packs while they did the One step forward, two steps back do-see-do dance. Nobody ever gets too far like that. Anyways, we had great conditions over to Ike but it is riddled now by the Great Postholio! $*%# your snowshoes and your skis! We hit Pierce on the way out and there was a group of hikers about 20 in number. I don't even know that many people let alone want to spend an extended period of time with them. Conditions on the way out where lovely. We made sublime time on the way out. Snowshoes will be the way to go, especially with your televators. Easy mode! Lots of traffic to Gibbs Falls, one set of rough tracks to Crawford Cliff. Also - I am not sure who "The Teal Coat" is, but hello! |
