Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Carye Trail is primitive for sure. Not well marked, vague trail corridor, and obscure turns. Might be easier in the summer? Several small blowdowns scattered throughout. The map on the trailhead sign indicates that the trail ends at the swamp to the SW of Lockes Hill, but this isn't the case on the ground. Even though this trail isn't maintained by BRATTs, there are two BRATTs signs at the top of it.

Comments
Comments: Today's adventure was Carye Trail to Lockes Hill, which I kept losing in the ascending direction due to poor markings, vague trail corridor and obscure turns. Whenever I'd lose the route, I'd just bushwhack for a bit until I found it again. Near the start, I was led astray by some flagging which I thought was the trail. When this turned away from where I wanted to go, I took to the woods for a roundabout route to the edge of the marsh at the SW of Lockes Hill, where I hit the trail again. In short, when you get to the first little pond behind the boat storage place, go left instead of straight. Not sure where exactly Carye Trail ends; blazing stops once it hits a logging road near the top, but signage near the summit suggests a terminus there.

Descending, I was able to follow the marked route down and saw where I had wandered off. Lower down, a skier had come part way up the trail and turned around, so that made route-finding easier.

Snow conditions were a little weird. Enough for snowshoes round-trip, but not enough to prevent bumping into rocks and roots. Around midday, the powder was becoming sticky in the sun.

I only went down Lakeview Trail as far as the outlook, but both Lakeview and Quarry Trails had seen some light snowshoe traffic.
