Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Just when you think you've seen it all in the Whites...we arrived and were excited to be the only car in the parking lot. However, we made the mistake of pulling in right beside the spot where someone decided to drop a deuce, accompanied by a wad of TP. This was no ordinary deuce, mind you, this log was left by a super-size, super-inconsiderate human. Sadly, it ruined my hiking partner's breakfast. Many of you are wondering what shape the trails will be in after tonight's rain...we, however, are wondering what shape the Garfield parking lot will be in. Watch yourself when parking a few spots to the right of the gate.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Ice on both major crossings was melting faster than an ice cream cone on a hot summer day. We went upstream a bit on the second crossing for thicker ice.

Comments
Comments: A SPLENDID day in the forest! Trails were well packed but the final few miles were softening in the afternoon. We wore spikes car to car without postholing although the one other hiker we saw was in snowshoes and the case could be made for those as things warmed up. Road has a minimal coating but the most minimal coating of all was on the first 1/4-1/2 mile of the actual trail. Lots of bare earth. Final 0.2 of a mile to the summit was all snow-no ice today-but who knows what it will look like after tonight's rain. Breezy on the summit which meant just a few quick minutes to soak in the beauty of the other peaks we've visited recently. Trail felt like April today and perhaps May tomorrow. (We hope no Teal Goats were harmed in the viewing ((see photo)) of this report...really we appreciate your entertaining trail beta. It's been a couple of years but someday we will cross paths again!)
