Comments
Comments: Wore snowshoes up and spikes down. Most people I saw on way up wore snowshoes. And most people I passed on way down wore spikes. You could go either way. Trail is very hard packed except for the last 1.5 miles.. a little soft there and snowshoes might be more pleasant. But could go either way. Entire trail broken out even to true summit. Met a man who did a loop starting at Unknown Pond and he said the trail wasn't broken and he was in thigh deep snow at times. Said it was brutal and he was wiped out. Glad we didn't go that way. Chilly but beautiful. Had lunch and warmed up in the cabin. The road to Berlin Hatchery was plowed but slick.. if you don't have a good winter car go slow. Gate was open at 5pm and judging by the snow piled up around it doesn't look like they close it in winter at all. But who knows.
