|
| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked next to the gas station. Spaces available there and at the hiker lot at 0730. Hiker lot has around 40 vehicles when I returned around 1130. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
None of note here. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Some fallen trees, mostly approaching and on the ridge: a lean under, a couple of easy step-overs and the final one approaching Waumbek is either a crawl-under or a tight whack-around. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw a couple enjoying the day. Please be mindful that just because you are standing aside does not mean your pooch is. |
|
| Bugs: |
None. |
|
| Lost and Found: |
Shortly after descending Starr King I found a beige/orange microfiber towel ion the ground. I hung it to a tree to give better visibility to its owner. |

| Comments: |
Trail is well packed and mostly has a hard styrofoam crunch with just a couple of soft areas on top. Thanks to Chef's report from yesterday I wore Hillsounds round trip and left snowshoes in the car without regret. Saw quite a few people carrying snowshoes and a few wearing them, however.
It has been a few years since I was here last. As I recall, the last time the view from Starr King was non-existent due to the weather but today it was crisp and clear - as was the viewpoint just beyond Waumbek. I'm glad I got out early since skies started turning grey late morning. I had also forgotten what a pleasant walk the ridge was - and really the entire trail for that matter. Lots of people enjoying the fine day - it was nice chatting with a few of them. |
