Comments
Comments: The Rocky Branch Trail is in prime condition, a highway to the bushwhack. Definitely do not need snowshoes until the bushwhack. On our way up, we struggled through the bushwhack after the snow and wind from yesterday/last night. Post holes went up to the knee or hip in spots. Put on the snowshoes here are wore them until the top. There are many untracked paths that all look like the bushwhacking path. On the way down, enough people had tracked through with snowshoes that there was a pretty stable path, though snowshoes are DEFINITELY recommended from the bushwhack up to the peak. As long as no one (or wind) moved it, some nice hikers put a large tree limb across the bushwhack path that looks tracked out but that you shouldn't go through because of the severe postholes. The correct bushwhack is the path to the right. If the stick isn't there, it is the split of the trails when you are going into a large open glade area. The incorrect trail goes down into the glade and the correct trail goes off to the right and up a slight hill. At this point, there must have been 20+ people who have gone up and down Mt. Isolation and the snowpack is looking really good! This is definitely the time to hike Isolation, but bring your snowshoes and micro-spikes, you'll need them!
