Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking was adequate. Unknown Pond trailhead had two other cars and the Bunnell Notch trailhead was packed.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Postholes
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Snow bridges were seemingly untouched at points and required some planning on the unknown Pond trail. The stream crossings on Bunnell Notch were well traveled and easy to overcome.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blow downs on Unknown Pond that were rather fresh. The trail markings were extremely spotty and many were peeling off the birch trees. Seemed like there was a good half mile between some on Unknown Pond and Kilkenny Ridge, north of Mt. Cabot

Comments
Comments: We started at Unknown Pond Trailhead and ran into a hiker wrapping up who indicated he couldn’t find the trail on the north side of Cabot on Kilkenny Ridge. We proceeded to maintain our course and traverse up Unknown Pond Trail until the intersection with Kilkenny Ridge. There was another pair of hikers who were ahead of us, but that wasn’t apparent until we crossed paths near the Unknown Pond. They had tried to make it to Cabot but turned around as they weren’t making progress and uncertain they were on the trail. We leveraged their trail for about .5 miles until it was clear where they turned around. Then it was trail breaking to the top of Cabot, relying heavily on a gps to maintain our course. Windy, snowy and not for the faint of heart. But we made it right for sunset and were granted a decent view in the storm break before heading back down Kilkenny Ridge to Bunnell Notch which were well packed and easy to defend.
