Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There was a small avalanche/snowslide across Sawyer River Road that we could walk over and a tree that fell across the road close to the summer trailhead. We could get around both but the tree needs to be limbed for snowmobile access.

Comments
Comments: Today was a long 14-miler with conditions a bit softer to start and windier later than expected - but still managed 7 hours car to car so we'll take it. We hoped the snow would freeze more overnight but it didn't really get firm until our way down. We wore snowshoes from the start and all the way until we hit the summer parking lot on the way back down. We didn't see anyone all day. There was one set of what looked like running snowshoes to start but they turned around where the trail was flooded (see below).
Trail is a bit rough in spots from previous post-holes but you'll be ok if you stay on the centerline. The trail is flooded a bit before the stream crossing so we had to do some workarounds - sinking deep even with snowshoes. Our workaround to the right worked the best and we got less wet. There is a Y split just before the stream. We went right to stay on the actual trail on the way up but it was less packed. The river crossing was hoppable in snowshoes. We re-connected with the "left" trail in about 15 minutes and that one was packed more so we took it on the way back down. Def more traffic on that bushwack and shorter, but more stream crossings. They were still ok to cross with snowshoes on and using poles for balance (none of the river crossings were bridged - all open water). A good freeze overnight might make most of the trail fine with just microspikes but it just wasn't setup enough for us today.
